Canadian Press Rolls Out Internet Service

Canadian Press launched Command News, a new service intended to bring the power of real-time Canadian news to the corporate and government desktop.

CP, Canada’s national news agency, provides real-time news from Canada and the world in English and French, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“In today’s fast-moving competitive environment current information is more important than ever,” said Eric Morrison, president of Canadian Press. “Now organizations that
need to stay on top of breaking news can do so through the Internet without leaving their desks.”

Canadian media have depended on CP for real-time news since 1917. Access to that same information means corporations and governments can plug in to the same service used by nearly 100 Canadian daily newspapers and hundreds of radio and television stations.

Knowing what’s being said in the media before it hits the newspapers or the radio and television broadcasts means faster access to information, which means increased responsiveness in the marketplace.

“Our clients are excited,” said Gerry Arnold, executive editor. “In the past a CP feed required a dedicated terminal and phone line. Command News makes use of current technology so you get scrolling news stories wherever you can get access to the Internet. Command News can be personalized and makes it easy to keep up with breaking news.”
