Music retailer CDNOW and its ad agency Hampel/Stefanides are
airing three new TV commercials as part of an ongoing campaign that debuted
during the telecast of the 1999 Grammy Awards.
The new spots are appearing on cable networks MTV, VH1 and Country Music
Television. Spending was not disclosed.
Hampel/Stefanides developed the ad campaign to highlight how personal the
CDNOW (CDNW) experience is, where each consumer can create his or her own music
Store. In each of the commercials, directed by music video and
commercial director Mike Bennion in conjunction with Curious, the narrators
describe their journeys through various eras and genres of music.
CDNow is in the process of merging with Columbia House, a club-based direct
marketer of music and videos, which is owned equally by Sony and Time Warner.
Hampel/Stefanides, founded in 1993, was acquired last fall by Envoy
Communications Group. Clients include Castrol Motor Oil, National Discount
Brokers, Aer Lingus, BASF Corp. Altec Lansing Technologies, PhoneFree.com and
Steve Madden Shoes.
