The Kelsey Group and The Association of Directory Marketing are co-sponsoring
a conference in Boston that will address the concerns of many companies trying
to stake a claim in the Internet directories and city guides area.
Keynote speaker will be Jeff Taylor, executive vice president for interactive
at TMP Worldwide and of The Monster Board employment ad site.
Internet Yellow Pages advertising alone is expected to grow from $30 million
in 1997 to over $1 billion in 2005, according to The Kelsey Group, an analyst
for the yellow pages and directory industry.
“According to the U.S. Small Business Internet Survey recently conducted by
Cyber Dialogue and FIND/SVP, small businesses stated that next to banner ads,
online Yellow Pages are the next most likely Web advertising medium to be used
in 1998,” said Kelsey Group president John F. Kelsey III, “There are a growing
number of directories and city guides vying for these ad dollars.”
Other speakers at the conference include Tom Miller, executive vice president
of Cyber Dialogue, who conducted the l998 American Internet User Survey, and
Mat Stover, president of Bell Atlantic Information Services Group, provider of BigYellow, the national online shopping directory.
The fourth annual Online Directories & City Guides Conference is to be held at the Boston Marriott Copley on July 22-24, 1998. Peter Krasilovsky, a leading industry analyst and the author of “Local Information on the Net” is helping to coordinate this event.
