General Magic, Juno Online Services Strike Marketing Deal

General Magic, creator of a
technology that allows people to read their e-mail over the telephone, on
Tuesday struck a marketing deal with Juno
Online Services
to distribute the service, myTalk, to the ISP’s membership.

“Our members will now be able to get their e-mail at any time and from any
location,” says Charles Ardai, Juno’s president and chief executive officer.

The services that General Magic offers, and others like them, are becoming
increasingly popular at a time when companies are beginning to offering
universal messaging and Internet-anywhere services. Some of the start-up
players include OneBox.com (which was
recently acquired by Phone.com), uReach.com, and JFAX. The big telecoms are also in the game.
This deal gives General Magic access to the Juno customer base, and,
perhaps an opportunity to market its other services.

“We expect many Juno users to add to their e-mail experience by taking
advantage of the myTalk service,” says Steve Markman, president and chief
executive officer of General Magic.
