Ad-backed opt-in newsletter company PennMedia.com formed a newsletter
syndication division to provide its newsletter content to marketers.

The newsletter content available for syndication spans a range of consumer
interests, from trivia and recipes to entertainment news and health tips.

As part of PennMedia.com’s turnkey program for sponsors, the company
customizes the content, inserts the sponsor’s promotional messages, e-mails
the newsletters to the sponsor’s customers, and coordinates all customer
service functions relating to subscriber questions. PennMedia.com will also
assist its sponsors in acquiring subscribers to their
newsletters.

“With our network, we have seen that text advertising in opt-in e-mail
newsletters is the most effective type of Internet advertising for driving
traffic to Web sites and acquiring new customers,” said Beverly Chang,
director of syndication for PennMedia.com. “Now, with our syndicated
newsletter program, Internet marketers have a vehicle for managing customer
relationships, by keeping the company’s name in front of them on
a regular basis with an entertaining, yet unobtrusive, medium.”

Chang said that she envisions that the newsletter “The Daily Recipe” would be
a popular choice for online grocers and other e-commerce companies offering
food-related products. She added that business-to-business marketers might
opt to sponsor “The Coffee Break,” which features off-beat stories from
newspapers around the world.

PennMedia.com mails newsletters to a combined subscriber base of more than
six million.
