Audience analysis and traffic measurement company WebSideStory filed a federal lawsuit
against WebTrends Corp. and obtained
a temporary restraining order for alleged copyright and trade infringement.
With its HitBox application, the privately held
WebSideStory says it “pioneered the technology of remote, Internet-based Web
audience monitoring and analysis.”
WebTrends describes itself as a provider of enterprise solutions for
“eBusiness Intelligence, Systems Management and Reporting.”
A federal court in San Diego issued a temporary restraining order prohibiting
WebTrends from copying any works derived from certain copyrighted works of
WebSideStory until the court hears further argument in the case. The next
hearing will be held Jan. 31. WebSideStory said it is seeking a preliminary
injunction.
“Our HitBox design is important to our business and we intend to defend it
from
infringement by third parties,” said Blaise Barrelet, founder, president and
CEO of WebSideStory.
There was no immediate comment issued by WebTrends.
