The Netcraft Web Server Survey is a
survey of Web Server software usage on the Internet. Netcraft received responses to its
April 2002 survey from 37,585,233 sites. This is a slight decline from March’s 38,118,962 and is the second consecutive decline this year.

Apache, Microsoft, iPlanet, and Zeus remained the key players with shares of 56.38 percent, 31.96 percent, 2.21 percent, and 2.26 percent, respectively. Microsoft experienced a decrease in the number of servers, while Apache saw its presence increase, and Zeus and iPlanet, in essence, remained flat.

NT-specific servers accounted for 32.23 percent of responses. This is a marginal decline from the previous month’s 34.28 percent. Apache-specific servers accounted for 57.94 percent, a slight increase over March’s 55.25 percent. Macintosh-specific servers declined from 1.05 percent in March to 0.36 percent in April.

Of the servers surveyed, 18,916,155, or 50.33 percent, had .com domains.
