Security software vendor Symantec received some good news this week when PC giant HP agreed to extend a contract that will keep its security applications installed on all HP machines for the foreseeable future.
As eSecurity Planet reports, the deal keeps Symantec front and center in enterprise and consumer computer buyers’ minds and will surely lead to numerous long-term security subscriptions for users who have become increasingly vigilant about protecting their data.
Symantec, McAfee (NYSE: MFE) and a slew of smaller and mainly privately held security software vendors have enjoyed strong sales and profit growth in recent years as both the volume and sophistication of organized hacking and malware attacks has increased.
“HP customers recognize Norton as a world leader in security solutions for PCs,” said Jason Zajac, vice president of HP’s personal systems group. “We believe customers will appreciate HP having pre-installed subscriptions to Norton Internet Security on PCs so they can get instant protection from online threats without having to download software.”
HP and Symantec this week announced an multi-year extension that ensure that all HP desktop, laptop and notebook PCs will be shipped with a free 60-day subscription of Symantec’s Norton Internet Security software suite.
Symantec (NASDAQ: SYMC) officials said the latest version of Norton Internet Security 2010 and Norton Antivirus 2010 features reputation-based security features that helps identify, classify and validate files and applications running on consumer and corporate PCs.
The length and terms of the extension were not disclosed.
