BancAmerica Robertson Stephens to Report on E-Commerce Industry

BancAmerica Robertson Stephens research analyst Gary Craft publishes a research report on the electronic commerce industry.

Craft outlines the actual and projected performance of companies under his
coverage and of other key players in this sector. He also will highlight the
previous quarter’s milestones. The first report is entitled “The State of the
Electronic Commerce Industry–June 98.”

Craft said he believes the electronic commerce industry presents several
opportunities for the investor because the stocks in this sector are typically
predictable since
financial results are tied to transaction volumes, which traditionally have
been stable. He cited Transaction Systems Architects (Nasdaq: TSAI) and
Sterling Commerce (NYSE: SE) as among those stocks investors should consider.

He also believes that investors should focus on financial services e-commerce
because of
the critical role financial services, the fifth largest industry in the U.S.,
plays in the trade cycle.

“This fragmented industry could consolidate as a result of technology
(particularly the Internet),” said Craft. “As the line between providers
and users continues
to blur, significant upside to investments is likely.”

In the report, Craft outlines a series of predictions concerning the future of
banking and technology such as the elimination of check fraud, a rise in
financial service lawsuits, the effects of the emerging technologies on the
industry.

Craft joined San Francisco-based BancAmerica Robertson Stephens as a vice
president and senior research analyst in 1997. He specializes in the
electronic commerce/payment systems segment of the information services
industry.
