Buzzsaw.com Bulks Up on B2B Services

Looking to cash in on the growing business-to-business trend, construction
industry portal Buzzsaw.com Inc.
Monday purchased PageMasters Inc.,
a document management company.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Privately-held PageMasters provides software for
engineering, printing, scanning, document processing, and
document management for the reprography, architecture, engineering, and
construction industries. It has a worldwide distribution of its software
through an alliance with Océ, a leading manufacturer of large and small
format digital printers and copiers.

With its services, Buzzsaw will offer customers access and management of
construction drawings and specifications online, as well as the ability to
send orders to local, specialized reprographic printing centers directly
from the Buzzsaw.com site.

The acquisition of PageMasters fits with Buzzsaw.com’s strategic plan to
deliver online project collaboration and e-commerce services for the
building and construction industries using a combination of internal
development, strategic partnerships, equity
relationships and acquisitions, the company said.

“The combination of Buzzsaw.com and PageMasters creates a smooth, last-mile
solution for reprographic services,” said Carl Bass, Buzzsaw.com’s chief
executive officer. “We have taken a major step forward in delivering the
benefits of online commerce to the AEC industry.”

“This agreement presents a tremendous advantage to our customers who will
now enjoy an integrated, online approach to organizing, viewing, and
ordering plan sets from the Internet.”

B2B is the hot buzzword of the day, with a variety of companies enhancing
their services to other businesses recently. Yahoo! Corp. (YHOO)
last week launched a directory specifically for B2B professionals, and
earlier this month networking firm 3Com
Corp.
(COMS)
traded in its consumer services for an expanded role in the enterprise
market.
