Takeout Taxi, a multi-restaurant delivery service, formed a strategic
technology and marketing alliance with Seattle-based cybermeals, the online ordering system.
Under terms of the agreement, cybermeals will create a Web site for
Takeout Taxi where Web surfers can order takeout and delivery meals from all of Takeout Taxi’s member restaurants. Takeout Taxi claims to be the largest restaurant delivery service to offer this feature to its member restaurants.
Through the alliance, cybermeals’ network of restaurants on its Web site will
expand to include all of Takeout Taxi’s member restaurants. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Takeout Taxi and cybermeals were both founded to capitalize on the growing
“Home Meal Replacement” trend where today’s busy consumers who do not have
time to cook from scratch are increasingly turning to the convenience of
takeout and delivery foods,” said Tim Glass, cybermeals co-founder, president, and chief executive officer.
“By partnering with Takeout Taxi, we are combining the largest restaurant
delivery service with unmatched technological resources to revolutionize the
takeout industry; redefining the standards of convenience for takeout orders.”
cybermeals, which says it has more than 13,000 restaurants under contract,
integrates a restaurant database with large-scale geo-positioning software,
Apple’s WebObjects, MapQuest data and other proprietary technology to bring
customers fast access to participating restaurants and restaurant delivery
services in their own areas.
Takeout Taxi was established in 1987 to capitalize on a rapidly emerging,
major trend in U.S. society the “Home Meal Replacement” market. This market
encompasses pizza home delivery companies and all restaurants that provide
meals at a time/cost combination that is difficult for an individual to match
by cooking at home.
In the past five years, Takeout Taxi has grown from $1 million to over $60
million in system revenues. Takeout Taxi has 65 franchises in 24 states.
