America Online’s Digital City signed a distribution and
content agreement making the local network the exclusive provider of area-related news and content to USAToday.com.
Under the agreement, Digital City will program USAToday.com’s Local City
Guide with regional news and information, entertainment, classifieds,
directories, maps and directions.
Additionally, as part of the agreement,
Digital City will sell all local advertising on the USAToday.com Local City
Guide. National advertising will be sold equally between the two companies.
Financial specifics were not disclosed.
The Local City Guide powered by Digital City will be accessible to the nearly
26 million
visitors coming through the USAToday.com portal every month.
Digital City
content and information will also be threaded throughout USAToday.com areas,
including the main page, News, Life and Sports sections.
“The addition of Digital City content allows us to enhance our coverage of
local news as well as offer other city-specific information that our
consumers are seeking,” said Jeff Webber, senior vice president and publisher
of USAToday.com.
