Excite Inc. and
specialty retailer Genesis Direct Wednesday signed an agreement that will
bring 20 Genesis brands to Excite and WebCrawler.
Genesis’ brands include proteam.com,
which will be the first to debut on Excite in the first quarter of 1999,
offering a variety of sports fan merchandise from all major pro sports
leagues. In addition to officially-licensed products, the site will offer
exclusive collectibles and other sports-related items. Next-day shipping
will also be available.
Later, shoppers will also be able to choose from travel merchandise, tin
toys and limited edition, signed lithographs and memorabilia from rock and
TV stars.
The agreement also includes off-line promotions for Excite, including
inserts in Genesis Direct catalogs and in merchandise shipped to Genesis
Direct customers.
Andy Halliday, Excite’s vice president of commerce, said the deal is part
of Excite’s strategy to ensure the site’s users have a positive online
buying experience.
“By combining our efforts, Excite and Genesis Direct will be able to offer
online shoppers a strong selection of great merchandise as well as
providing a quick, easy and secure way for consumers to purchase their
selections at the click of a mouse,” he said.
