Online pharmacy FamilyMeds.com said it plans to launch
what it called “the first online Spanish-language Internet pharmacy companion
site targeting U.S. Hispanic consumers.”

The move “will allow us to offer enhanced service to our visitors as well as
a more
comprehensive solution for our managed care partners,” said Ed Mercadante,
president and chief executive officer of FamilyMeds.com.

The English-language FamilyMeds.com Internet pharmacy has benefited from
strategic marketing and managed care partnerships and the company said it
intends to use the
same approach at its Spanish-language site.

FamilyMeds.com said it creates and administers private branded and co-branded
online drugstores for HMOs, hospitals and medical plan providers and plans to
help them better serve the burgeoning Hispanic market while bolstering its
direct consumer business.

The company said the Spanish-language site will feature culturally relevant
medical information adapted to satisfy the needs of the Hispanic community.
Launch is planned later this month.
