Community site GeoCities this week launched “Pages That Pay,” an e-commerce affiliate program for its more than 3.5 million members.

Pages That Pay gives GeoCities’ “Homesteaders” the ability to make money
through their own personal Web pages by selling thousands of products and
services from 16 brand-name merchants.

The program, powered by Be Free Inc.’s affiliate marketing technology, offers
any merchant on the Internet the opportunity to partner with GeoCities and
leverage the
content and traffic generated by its member base and nearly 19 million monthly
visitors.

“We have recast the model for Internet affiliate marketing,” said Thomas R.
Evans, president and CEO of GeoCities. “Pages That Pay provides a huge upside
for merchants and our members. Our merchant partners get instant access to the
e-commerce purchasing power of nearly 19 million visitors per month. For our
members, it could not be easier to generate money from their Web sites at
GeoCities.”

GeoCities members choose which merchants and products they wish to display on
their pages. When visitors complete sales from those affiliate links, the
member earns a percentage of the revenue.

Merchants in the program at launch include barnesandnoble.com, DigitalWork
Inc.
, Egghead.com, eMerchandise, Fogdog Sports, MSN Expedia, Net2Phone,
Outpost.com, QSound Labs Inc., Reel.com, Seattle FilmWorks, 7thStreet.com,
SmarterKids.com, Staples.com, Tickets.com and Value America.

Pages That Pay allows GeoCities members to integrate multiple merchant
affiliate links using existing page-building tools, such as GeoBuilder
(GeoCities’ free online Web publishing program). Members use a
single login to access a consolidated sales report for all merchant accounts
and receive customer support.
