ICOMS, a provider of
Internet commerce transaction services, will provide transaction processing
and merchant support for GeoCities, the online community that
claims more than 1.4 million active members and more than 8 million unique
monthly visitors.

Under the agreement, ICOMS will allow GeoCities advertisers to “commerce-
enable” their banner advertisements. By directly linking consumers to the
ordering area for a particular online advertiser, MerchantTrax eliminates the
need to send shoppers through a series of Web pages before arriving at the
transactional page.

ICOMS MerchantTrax service will also process orders and manage monthly
subscription payments for GeoCities’ GeoPlus premium service, which allows
“homesteaders” to increase the size of their personal home page.
Additionally, the MerchantTrax services will handle transactions for GeoCities
merchandise purchased in the GeoStore.

MerchantTrax is based on Transact from Open Market, which offers order
management, online customer service, security, authentication, record-keeping,
flexible purchasing, payment models, and secure transaction processing,
including sales tax and shipping charges.

“As we continue to offer new and exciting e-commerce features to our
homesteaders and visitors, we realized the need to integrate a proven
transactional services provider to handle order processing and other critical
functions,” said Michael G. Barrett, vice president, advertising sales at
Santa Monica, CA-based GeoCities.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
