Companies to Install Nationwide Fiber Network

Switch and Data today announced an agreement with Williams Communications to install high-capacity fiber network connections in 20 markets nationwide, providing increased connectivity options to Switch and Data’s service provider customers.

According to Switch and Data, the agreement expands its carrier services portfolio, and enhances its role as in high-demand metro areas. It targets customers and service providers who are continually seeking increased telecommunications connectivity and just-in-time bandwidth allocation. The Williams Communications agreement will also enable Switch and Data to offer customers broadband interconnections on an OC-48 fiber optic link with a bandwidth of 2.5 gigabytes/second.

“As valuable as this relationship is for Switch and Data and Williams Communications, the major beneficiaries will be our customers, who will now have access to one of the most extensive fiber networks available,” said Patricia Higgins, CEO and president of Switch and Data. “This agreement is a central component to our business strategy – providing customers with a myriad of service choices to fulfill their networking needs. By providing an on-ramp to Williams Communications’ broadband fiber backbone, Switch and Data strengthens its value proposition as a carrier-neutral colocation and networking services provider.”

The alliance provides Internet service providers (ISPs), telecommunications carriers and other Web-centric customers access to Williams Communications’ fiber-based, packet switching network through Switch and Data’s Convergent Network Centers.
