Imation Launches New Black Watch Super DLTtape I Media

Sep 3, 2002

Imation announced today the availability of its Black Watch Super DLTtape I media cartridges and SDLT cleaning cartridges.

Specifically designed for the demands of network and data center operations, the Imation Black Watch Super DLTtape I media offers 160GB capacity and 16MB/second transfer rate (320GB and 32MB/s compressed). In contrast, when used in the SDLT 220 drive, Super DLTtape I media offers 110GB capacity and 11MB/second transfer rate (220GB and 22MB/s compressed).

“With the addition of Super DLTtape, Imation now offers one of the broadest and most complete removable media portfolios for mid-range server backup,” said Frank Russomanno, president, Imation Data Storage and Information Management. “Because Imation has been manufacturing enterprise class tape products to the most exacting quality standards for 50 years, data center managers, IT professionals and computer users look to Imation for the proven quality, reliability and performance they need to manage, store and secure their data.”

Super DLTtape technology utilizes the Advanced Metal Particle formulation, to provide high recording density and to dramatically increase capacity. Additionally, Super DLTtape technology also incorporates a backcoating that contains optical servo tracks, which will enable customers to use the entire magnetic surface of the media for recording data, allowing SDLT drives to reach higher capacities.

The Imation SDLT cleaning cartridges, also announced today, are compatible with SDLT 220 and SDLT 320 drives. SDLT drives require periodic drive head cleaning, as specified by the drive. Using a cleaning cartridge promotes reliability and error free operation.
