Legato Systems, Inc., an enterprise storage management software vendor, today announced a new release of its flagship storage management software, Legato(R) NetWorker(R) 6.1, adding features it says will to improve the manageability, performance and availability of backup and restore operations in SAN (Storage Area Network) and NAS (Network-Attached Storage) environments. These new enhancements are designed to reduce the overall cost of ownership of information protection solutions for storage networks.

According to Legato, NetWorker 6.1 introduces a new Dynamic Drive Sharing (DDS) option that allows tape drives to be dynamically reconfigured and shared across multiple NetWorker Storage Nodes in a SAN environment. This option enhances manageability and enables optimal utilization of high performance tape libraries in a SAN while, Legato claims, significantly reducing the overall investment and administrative expense.

Legato NetWorker 6.1 is set to be available for shipment to customers this month.
