Quantum Corporation’s DLTtape today announced it has begun shipping DLT1 drives to its channel of resellers and distributors.

According to Quantum, its new Quantum DLT1 drive is an extension of the DLTtape platform, the de facto standard in tape storage technology. It offers a 40GB Native/80GB compressed capacity as well as 3MB Native/6MB per second compressed transfer rate.

Quantum’s DLT1 drive is backward-read compatible with the DLTtape 4000 drive and, Quantum says, works with virtually all popular backup software packages, enabling easy integration with new and existing networks and systems, while providing soft unload capability.

Quantum’s DLT1 drive has a suggested retail price of $1410.
