Quantum|ATL and ATTO Technology Integrate for Fibre Channel Connectivity

Quantum|ATL tape automation products vendor, and ATTO Technology, Inc., Fibre Channel and SCSI storage manufacturer, today announced the Prism FC310, a third-generation Fibre Channel-to-SCSI bridge integrated into certain currently shipping models of Quantum|ATL’s high-performance, intelligent tape libraries. The new product is part of Quantum|ATL’s Prism Storage Architecture(TM), a standard feature of most Quantum|ATL libraries that the company says enables easy addition of system connectivity and feature options.

According to the companies, the Prism FC310 is designed for the high throughput of Super DLTtape(TM) and LTO Ultrium(TM) tape drives and enables these new drives to be directly attached to a storage area network (SAN).

“This solution allows Quantum|ATL customers to continue to keep pace with Fibre Channel technology while cost-effectively improving the overall performance and scalability of their libraries over the long term,” said Kevin Daly, president and CEO of Quantum|ATL. “An internal Fibre Channel router is an important feature for today’s enterprise libraries.”

“By integrating our new Fibre Channel technology, Quantum|ATL customers will have a Fibre Channel bridge that is tightly coupled within the internal library architecture,” said Timothy Klein, president and CEO of ATTO. “This allows the Prism FC310 to take part in high availability features while sharing a consolidated user interface and network management system with the rest of the library.”

The Prism FC310 is available immediately and supports DLT 7000, DLT 8000, Super DLTtape and LTO Ultrium drives.
