VERITAS Software Corporation today announced the expansion of its data protection support for network-attached storage (NAS) environments and Internet messaging appliances.

According to VERITAS, its NetBackup(TM) data protection software for heterogeneous enterprise environments has added backup and recovery support for NAS file servers from Procom Technology and Internet messaging servers from Mirapoint, joining existing support of NAS devices from Network Appliance, EMC and Auspex.

VERITAS says its NetBackup DataCenter provides high-speed local backup of NAS and messaging appliances that doesn’t impact the network. A feature, called alternate client restore allows data backed up from one server to be restored to another.

VERITAS NetBackup DataCenter is immediately available starting at a suggested retail price of $5,000 for Windows platforms, and $10,000 for UNIX platforms. VERITAS NetBackup NDMP, which requires VERITAS NetBackup DataCenter, starts at $8,500.
