XIOtech to Demo Oracle9i Storage Solution

XIOtech Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Seagate Technology and a storage area network (SAN) vendor, plans to exhibit a storage solution for Oracle databases at Oracle OpenWorld in San Francisco from December 2nd-7th.

XIOtech said its virtualized storage architecture–comprising the MAGNITUDE SAN hardware platform and REDI SAN management software–improves database availability with redundant hardware and exclusive software that allows administrators to add, remove, expand, and move storage in seconds while the system is online.

“Oracle has designed Oracle9i to protect data and keep it available; XIOtech’s virtualized storage architecture supports that kind of high availability in an easy-to-manage framework,” said Richard Blaschke, executive vice president of marketing for XIOtech. “This demonstration at Oracle OpenWorld will show a tested solution that meets real-world challenges and can grow to meet the future needs of an enterprise.”

The company said its virtualized storage architecture is cluster ready and allows for immediate implementation of Oracle9i Real Application Clusters (RAC) for many-to-many failover. In addtion, XIOtech said its virtualization technology also enhances performance of Oracle applications by striping data across all available disks in the MAGNITUDE hardware platform.

The configuration at Oracle OpenWorld will include two MAGNITUDE hardware platforms connected to Solaris, Linux, and Windows servers running Oracle9i, RAC, and Computer Associates’ BrightStor for backups to an ADIC tape library via Brocade SilkWorm switches.
