San Francisco-based INTERSHOP Communications Inc., a provider of electronic commerce software, signed hosting, licensing and reseller agreements with four Internet service providers and telecommunication companies.
The new clients are Bell Emergis, Bell Canada’s electronic commerce
development arm, Boca Raton, FL-based Hiway Technologies Inc., Sunnyvale, CA-
based Frontier GlobalCenter and Portland, OR-based GST Internet. Spending was
not disclosed.
All four companies will deploy electronic commerce solutions built on
INTERSHOP technology. Bell Canada provides telecommunication and Internet
services to more than 7 million users, while Hiway hosts more than 85,000
domain customers. Frontier
GlobalCenter, a digital distribution company, offers data and Internet
services to corporate customers such as Yahoo! and USA Today. GST Internet
supplies Internet services to customers in 11 states of the western U.S. and
in Hawaii.
These companies “will put INTERSHOP technology at the core of mass-deployed,
industrial-strength e-commerce solutions and help realize our vision of
providing products and services that make professional and secure business on
the Internet affordable for everyone,” said Stephan Schambach, president and
CEO of INTERSHOP Communications.
The company’s INTERSHOP 3 Hosting Edition enables ISPs to host thousands of Internet stores with millions of transactions and features load balancing, hybrid HTML, co-location hosting, and a built-in transaction server for secure, fail-safe
transaction capabilities, order processing and inventory control.
Separately, INTERSHOP and NetCall Telecom signed an agreement to integrate Netcall’s SomeOne service that offers Internet merchants the ability to communicate directly and instantly with their customers via phone.
Netcall’s technology turns browsing Internet shoppers into buyers by giving
them
the option to purchase over the phone. Financial terms of the arrangement were
not disclosed.
Under the terms of the agreement INTERSHOP will offer NetCall’s products and
services to programmers, integrators and Web designers who develop
electronic commerce solutions based on INTERSHOP’s e-commerce platform.
NetCall provides a communications network that integrates the public telephone system with Internet applications, making it easy for online shoppers to connect to customer representatives while they are logged on.
