McAfee, a division of Network Associate , today announced that Barbers Hill School District has selected McAfee ASaP to secure their networks from virus attacks. The district, located outside of Houston, Texas, has five campuses with over 4,000 students. The schools use the Internet for internal communication as well as for students to access and complete schoolwork assignments. This Internet-based anti-virus service assures that the district is protected from harmful viruses, worms and Trojans, without having to deploy internal resources to implement and manage the system.
“Prior to using the WebShield e500 ASaP service we were receiving viruses via email and it was impacting not only our network but also disrupting our classes and lectures,” said James Banks, technology director at Barbers Hill School District. With the service she say: “We know we are protected and we don’t need to use internal resources, enabling us to focus our effort where they belong, on our students.”
The McAfee ASaP family of Internet based services have been built around anti-virus and security technology from Network Associates and are delivered and managed to provide immediate, cost-effective security solutions for companies of all sizes. McAfee ASaP is currently utilized by over 5,800 customers, across 750,000 desktops.

McAfee’s WebShield e500 ASaP service combines McAfee’s virus scanning engine in a managed gateway appliance that sits between the firewall and the mail server at the customer location. McAfee ASaP configures, installs and manages the service from their Security Operations Center so that no internal resources are required. The service screens all e-mail traffic before it reaches the customer’s gateway or leaves their network, preventing e-mail borne viruses from comprising the customer’s network or infecting those they are communicating with.
