Providers of Application Change Management Software Form Alliance

A marketing alliance of three Application Change Management software providers was announced today at the Oracle Applications User’s Group Fall 2001 Conference in San Diego, CA. Merant Cinap, Incorporated and Tickmark Solutions Inc. will work together to provide information on change management practices and solutions to companies with Oracle’s Enterprise Applications product suite. The companies will launch the alliance at the OAUG Conference to inform IT managers and functional users about their automation tools to manage change at each stage of the application life cycle, particularly prior to and during upgrades.

Enterprise software systems are now widely installed in companies worldwide, and run the most critical business functions. These systems are highly complex, typically customized, and constantly changing. If unmanaged, these changes can swamp a project team and result in downtime of the production environments.

“Until recently there have been few change management software tools available for Enterprise Applications, and many users have experienced the pain of uncontrolled changes, unaware that they can automate much of the control process,” said Mark Petersen, partner, Ernst & Young Technology and Security Risk Services. “The interest in change management tools is high at the Conference, since many Oracle Applications Enterprise Software customers are planning upgrades – a period of high-intensity change where the ability to control change can make the difference between a successful upgrade and a front-page story in the trade publications.”

“We are embarking on a Multi-Million dollar implementation of Oracle Applications and introducing enormous change into our organization. We needed tools to help manage this change” said Jeff Stoney, Director of Technical Services at McGraw-Hill. “Their tools simplify the entire process for managing software changes and greatly reduce the risk to our project and company.”

Application Change Management entails continuous monitoring, change tracking, comparisons, creating an audit trail, and automated documentation. Each of the companies provides software tools to manage change at different levels of the “technology stack”: management of application setups (Tickmark), management of customizations (MERANT) and application patch management (Cinap). Automation of these areas saves a great deal of labor, time, stress, optimizes production system uptime, and most importantly brings order and control to the Oracle Enterprise environment.”
