Independent Internet service provider PSINet Inc. stepped up its drive to lure
business customers Wednesday with the opening of a new global Internet
hosting center for dedicated business applications services.

Located in Herndon, Va., near its corporate headquarters, the new
center will serve as a research and development lab as well as a showcase
for PSINet’s solutions. Its dedicated hosting services are intended to
provide active server and application monitoring, network management and
automated backup capabilities.

“PSINet understands that businesses are outsourcing their Web hosting and
management in order to maintain their focus on their core business,” said
Michael Mael, vice president of applications and
web services for PSINet Inc. “When choosing a Web hosting vendor and
facility, business customers are looking for the cost savings, increased
security, complete redundancy and fast connectivity that PSINet provides.”

The center will also be the central monitoring operation for the company’s
Internet hosting centers around the world. Additional hosting centers
are planned for Toronto, London and Amsterdam.

“The opening of this first center is a critical milestone in PSINet’s
strategy to provide a full range of Web and business application hosting
services on a global scale,” said William L. Schrader, chairman and CEO of
PSINet.

“Whether we’re hosting client Web sites or supporting their corporate
applications, our global Internet hosting centers are designed to meet
organizations’ business needs with high availability, performance,
scalability, reliability, and security.”
