Software giant Microsoft on Thursday announced it would partner with TWI Interactive (TWIi) and Vadiator Technology to roll out a video streaming delivery platform for cell phone operators.
The launch of Microsoft’s MobileVision platform is seen as Redmond’s answer to rival RealNetworks , which has racked up significant client wins throughout Europe for its Helix Mobile platform.
The three-way deal calls for Microsoft to provide Windows Media and Microsoft .NET technology expertise to TWIi, which is tasked with marketing the service to mobile operators. Bellevue, Wash.-based Vidiator will provide technology to handle encoding, decoding, transcoding and streaming of the video content.
MobileVision will serve up an all-in-one content management platform for video content delivery to cell phones, integrating transcoding, streaming, billing and customer-care service. Powered by Microsoft Windows Media 9 Series technology, the service will adopt the 3GPP
It has been fitted with technology to handle Video acquisition from one source or multiple sources; presentation of content to end users or customers via mobile video portals; and service management tools to handle billing, customer care and reporting.
MobileVision will be marketed as a hosted service from Mass.-based TWIi will full support for multiple video formats, mobile handsets and 2.5G/3G network technologies.
