Nokia Thursday announced a new wireless phone aimed at delivering multimedia to mobile users.
The company’s Nokia 5510 has a built-in digital music player, FM radio, games and messaging capabilities, according to the company. In addition, the phone can be operated sideways and has a keyboard to encourage messaging, the company said.
The phone has 64MB of RAM, which can play two hours of music in either the MP3 and Advance Audio Coding (AAC) audio formats, the company said. Desktop PC software included with the phone enables users to rip music from audio CDs and transfer them to the phone.
Besides Short Message Service (SMS) support, the phone also supports Wireless Application Protocol (WAP)-enabled e-mail, according to the company It also comes with five embedded games and a WAP browser.
The company didn’t provide pricing information, but said the phone would be available by the end of the year.
