Wireless LANs have been installed at the Governor’s Mansion and the Devereaux House at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games site in Salt Lake City, Utah. Users can avail themselves of a high-speed 802.11b network provided by Enterasys and two Utah-based companies, IKANO, and its subsidiary SISNA. The network installations allow users to obtain local transportation and ticketing information, view the Governor’s daily Olympic update from the State of Utah’s Olympic site, and take part in various web cases.

Enterasys’ RoamAbout wireless technology is being used in conjunction with network data infrastructure from IKANO and ISP service from SISNA. SISNA is the largest independent ISP in Utah. IKANO is the Official Data Networking Services Supplier for the 2002 Olympic Winter games.

Enterasys and SISNA technical support staff are available on site. “We have successfully provided the first high-speed wireless network available in the Salt Lake valley, and complemented that with the most extensive dial-up network in North America,” said IKANO CEO Henry Smith.

Enterasys also provided the technology and expertise necessary to 802.11b-enable the world’s largest soccer stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Enterasys RoamAbout 802.11b solution consists of RoamAbout Access Points, and 11 Mbps Ethernet Radio Adapters and External Antennas. The system supports 40/128-bit WEP encryption for security. Enterasys will install its RoamAbout solution in 32 more soccer stadiums in Brazil during 2002.
