The developer platforms that Apple and Google have set up for their mobile devices might get the most buzz, but Juniper is bringing the same model to its networking equipment.
With the new Junos Space Software Development Kit (SDK), Juniper is offering REST APIs that developers can use to build applications that will interact with the firm’s networking equipment.
“If you’re a developer working on functions that happen on the network box itself, it’s a hill that you have to climb and you have to understand the functionality really well,” said Jeet Kaul, vice president of engineering at Juniper. “What we wanted to do is bring in the ability to have people that aren’t network operators, building applications and make them aware of what the network offers.”
With the new platform, Juniper is hoping to give developers the tools to glean core network intelligence and management capacity, and mash up that data with other applications.
