O’Reilly Software will demonstrate Host Master, a new companion to WebBoard, the company’s award-winning Internet bulletin board/discussion software this week at Fall
Internet World ’99 in New York.
Host Master enables “power” administration of WebBoard sites, with the easy setup and management of multiple domains, boards, conferences and users.
O’Reilly believes that Host Master’s data and user management features will make Web administrators much more productive, as well as being responsive to end-users who are looking for content that can be searched, archived, moved and distributed. Features of Host Master include:
- Multiple domain names on a single server; all e-mail exchanges with the
server use the
appropriate domain name, making it appear as if it is on a dedicated
server. This also works with email notifications, mailing lists, and
welcome messages.
- Bulk user management tools; bulk import, export and deletion features
for those managing large groups of users, both public and private.
- Open Scripting Application Programming Interface (API) – enables custom
function development using standard scripting languages
- Archiving – this makes it easy to convert threaded discussions into
searchable, compressed, distributable archives or knowledge bases
WebBoard sells for a retail price of $1199. The suggested retail price of Host
Master has not yet been announced, and it is scheduled for release in the
first quarter of 2000.
