McGraw-Hill said it will acquire U.K.-based Xebec Multi Media Solutions, a move that signals the publisher’s entry into the market for intranet-based training solutions.

Xebec will join McGraw-Hill Lifetime Learning, the U.S. affiliate of the Lifelong Learning Group at Canada’s McGraw-Hill Ryerson.

Currently offering 27 business training applications on CD-ROM, Xebec is
converting its programs for intranet delivery and has developed an automatic
bandwidth sensitivity technology that automatically and continuously
assesses available bandwidth to optimize for various media depending on the
bandwidth.

Xebec’s directors and shareholders have agreed to the undisclosed terms of
the sale, expected to close in June.

“Xebec brings us its library of outstanding interactive multimedia training
programs, its cutting-edge technology for delivery of training via
intranets, its strong position in markets around the world, and its
highly-regarded development capabilities,” said Jennifer McGill, Director,
Lifelong Learning, McGraw-Hill Ryerson.
