Novell Inc. Monday released its Internet Caching System which is designed to increase the capacity of Intel-based Web servers.
Novell claims the product can increase the capacity of an Internet service provider’s equipment by ten-fold as well as dramatically improve the speed and efficiency of content delivery. Novell is also targeting corporations, hoping to deploy the system on their intranets and extranets.
Novell said the system has already been endorsed by computer makers Dell Computer Corp. and Compaq Computer Corp. Other companies that have signed on include Log-On Data, Mirror Image, SkyCache, Foundry and N2H2.
The Internet Caching System will only be sold through Intel-based OEM partners.
Ron Heinz, Novell’s senior vice president of worldwide sales, said the product builds on the company’s successful track record in this product market.
“With over 5 million enterprise users already rely on Novell’s BorderManager for Internet caching, we have clearly established ourselves as the leader in the caching market,” he said.
“As content publishers, enterprises and ISPs implement increasingly complex and performance intensive Web sites, the need for caching as a performance foundation becomes even more critical,” said Bill Raleigh, Intel’s enterprise server group marketing director.
Novell said the system can be installed in less than 10 minutes and will help companies optimize bandwidth and enable them to easily add new Internet applications. The system also supports URL filtering and blocking and supports browser-based monitoring and logging of usage data and statistics.
