Planet Intra Upgrades Intranet

Feb 28, 2000

Planet Intra Monday unveiled an
upgraded version of its intranet application which includes a discussion
forum and a user guide designed to simplify the setup process.

The discussion forum allows users to hold threaded discussions over an intranet, something Planet Intra says executives want.

“Our research shows that executives wish to exchange ideas and experiences
in a somewhat less formal and structured manner than e-mail correspondence,”
said Jaymz Dilworth, product manager at Planet Intra.

The second new feature is a four-step wizard to help novice users and
companies without a large IT infrastructure set up and manage their Intranet
easily.

Additionally, Planet Intra features Intra Editor, which allows users to edit
and upload content directly — without the need for any programming
knowledge. Other features include group calendaring, contact management and
a powerful search engine.

A 10-user version of Planet Intra is free, enabling businesses to trial the
software. Planet Intra is available in English, French, German, Dutch,
Spanish, Chinese, Korean and Japanese — either as a licensed application or
as a hosted Web-based solution called SecureService. Planet Intra’s intranet
is priced at $2 per user, per month, for the Secure Service, and between
$599 and $2,995 for the licensed application.

Last month, Planet Intra joined forces with IBM
Corp.
(IBM)
to offer an intranet solution to small and medium-size business customers running IBM’s Netfinity Servers.
