Wayport, Inc., a provider of 802.11b access in airports and hotels, announced Monday that they are in the process of acquiring nine Laptop Lane locations throughout the U.S.
According to Wayport, the Laptop Lane locations are in some of the world’s busiest airports will give Wayport access to customers most likely to demand their wireless Internet and business services. Standard services include private office rental, use of standard business machines like printers, fax, copiers, telecommunications, and overnight packaging and shipping. Wayport will add its high-speed wired and wireless Internet connectivity options to those services.
Wayport will set up the Wi-Fi (802.11b) and wired connections in the following Laptop Lane locations it purchased:
- Three at Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport
- Two at Chicago O’Hare International Airport
- One at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport
- One at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport
- One at New York LaGuardia International Airport
- One at Salt Lake City International Airport
Wayport will re-brand the locations under the Wayport name and upon completion of the acquisition will be a service provider at 11 airports within 8 major-market airports. Currently Wayport locations exist at Dallas/Fort Worth, Seattle-Tacoma, San Jose International, and Austin-Bergstrom International airports.
The retail locations will also sell mobile accessories and devices, and provide customer support staff.
Wayport, an Austin, Texas-based company, is a member of the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA) and its products are Wi-Fi certified for interoperability. Wayport also provides high speed wireless Internet access at over 420 hotels. These include Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Sonesta Hotels & Resorts, and MeriStar Hotels & Resorts, which manages hotels under brands such as Hilton, Sheraton, Marriott, Westin, Radisson, and Doubletree.
