Broadbandbox is a new combined product that can substitute a PC or a TV and gives best performance through a broadband connection. Launched by the Swedish company Broadbandbox.

This new box unit is supposed to become the home PC/TV set that also handles e-mail, Internet, chat, DVD, radio, MP3-CD, and karaoke. The box is connected to a modem, ISDN or other high speed connection.

A complete package with HDTV screen is SEK24,768 (US$2,800).

Broadbandbox AB hopes to be the first supplier to a new and expanding market where users equip their homes with a unit of this kind. However, more users would have to get a faster connection to the new broadband portals, which is in development right now.

The other question is if people will use a multi-equipped box for watching TV and surfing, or will they prefer the TV and PC as separate units.

The company is launched by one of the most well known Swedish IT-entrepreneurs, Claes Wellton Persson. His latest company was Lap Power. He is known for having the right feeling for new equipment combined with price, performance and a splashy way of introducing it to the market.
