Later this year, Compaq will open an ERP solutions center
in Taipei specifically for manufacturing SMEs in the Greater China region.
The Manufacturing Competency Centre will serve as a showcase for
enterprise business management applications from Compaq and partners.
Aggressively attempting to carve out a larger share of the manufacturing
enterprises market in Asia, Compaq Greater China is also holding its first
Manufacturing Leaders’ Forum in Tokyo next month.
According to Eila Chin, director of manufacturing industry marketing at
Compaq Greater China Division, the company has 70 percent of the world’s
manufacturing hardware business and is well positioned to meet the region’s
accelerating demand for manufacturing ERP solutions which Compaq projects
will double in Greater China alone by 2001.
The US PC giant’s relationships with SAP
and Oracle has produced solutions
such as SAP R3/PAQ and Oracle’s FastForward which the Greater China
Division will make available soon to its customers.
Compaq expects nearly 200 manufacturing customers from China, Hong Kong,
India,
Korea, Taiwan and ASEAN countries to attend the Tokyo Forum scheduled for 8
and 9 April where they will see demonstrations of these latest industry
solutions.
Participants will also see the latest application solutions for
manufacturing enterprises including ERP, global supply chain management,
advanced planning and scheduling, product data management, distributed
control systems and more.
Solution partners working closely with Compaq at the Forum include i2
Technologies, Deloitte Consulting, EDS Unigraphics, Microsoft, Oracle,
Parametric Technology Corp, SAP, Siebel and many others.
“Manufacturing customers will be able to preview new market trends and a
rich selection of solutions, all under one roof,” said Chin.
“Our customers will not need to run from pillar to post when they want to
choose new
solutions for their enterprise,” said Chin. “With our partners, Compaq is
able to offer a full range of enterprise solutions comprising hardware,
software and
services.”
