The growing interest in cloud computing is spurring new cloud-based technologies and services, but it’s also making the companies that provide those services attractive to companies looking to expand their portfolio of cloud services.

Enterprise Storage Forum reports on the latest example, Dell’s (NASDAQ: DELL) purchase of SaaS integration player Boomi. As ESF details, Dell said it was particularly attracted to Boomi’s expertise in helping companies manage and integrate cloud-based applications with their existing applications and databases.

In its first acquisition since losing out on the 3PAR bidding war with HP (NYSE: HPQ), Dell today announced it has agreed to acquire Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) integration software vendor Boomi for an undisclosed sum.

Boomi’s AtomSphere technology connects applications to the cloud by allowing for the transfer of data between cloud-based and on-premise applications without hardware appliances, software or coding.
