Dog Days Except For The Dow

It’s another Dow day afternoon as the blue chip stocks (of the old era) once again take the spotlight while Internet and tech shares bark up the wrong tree today at least. The current ISDEX value is 578.52 with a change of -16.89 (-2.84%).

  • CheckPoint (NASDAQ:CHKP) climbs 10.5% to $45 5/16 per share as the Internet security software firm announces two new products in as many days. One addresses the virtual private network space while the other the public key infrastructure space.

I’ve been waiting for a loooong time for CHKP to break out and glad to see my faith. This is one I’ve waited for for more than two years to find some running room.

Security software in general has been a dog sector but of all of them I see CheckPoint and Security Dynamics (NASDAQ:SDTI) as having the most potential. Network Associates has some also if it can get past shareholder lawsuits.

  • Cyberian Outpost (NASDAQ:COOL) goes after a new ad campaign that highlights its customer service, with a little wit to go with it. Apparently investors buy it as COOL shares rally up 13% to $14 3/4 per share.

Recall the last time Cyberian Outpost had a national TV campaign back in November-December of 1998 and COOL hit an all-time high of $45.50 per share. Marketing matters.
