Ericsson Wednesday unveiled three new wireless plays to add to its portfolio of mobile Internet access offerings.
In Hong Kong, the company launched Chatboard@, a mobile phone with snap-on keyboard to be used for short message service messaging, e-mail and personal site editing.
A corresponding Internet community Web site is also in the works, through which users can personalize an e-mail’s appearance. The product is expected to become available the first week in October, with the Web site launched by the end of this month.
Jan Ahrenbring said Ericsson is targeting the younger market with a product which combines “Internet chat with mobile telephony chat.”
The company also launched a messaging-over-IP solution, which supports
e-mail, voice mail, faxes, SMS and unified messaging in a fixed or mobile environment.
“Ericsson’s new Messaging-over-IP solution is fully integrated with the newest and the next generation of mobility solutions such as mobile positioning, GSM on the Net, WAP, GPRS, EDGE and 3G,” said
Sture Ostlund, Ericsson’s president of messaging.
“Messaging is rapidly becoming location and device independent, and mobility integration is critical for convenience of use and anywhere, anytime availability.”
Ericsson (ERICY) Wednesday also launched R320, a dual band WAP-functional mobile phone. The new phone is Ericsson’s third WAP-product.
