With so much of the talk coming out of the White House lately focusing on jobs, innovation and a 21st century economy, it stands to reason that the head of the Federal Communications Commission would have something to say about his agency’s role in the new push.

And with all the work Julius Genachowski and his team have been doing on broadband, he sees himself right in the thick of it.

“There’s no bigger opportunity for economic growth and job creation in the 21st century than getting our high-speed Internet infrastructure right for businesses large and small in the United States,” Genachowski said this morning at a Washington forum on jobs and the economy.

He explained that his multi-pronged broadband strategy aims to spur deployments through a combination of clearing the regulatory obstacles to network expansions, reforming the federal subsidy for rural phone service to support broadband, and to free up more spectrum for wireless networks.
