Germany’s Bertelsmann Relaunches Game Channel as a Portal

The Game Channel will be relaunched at the beginning of August as a portal which will include a new interactive game guide, well-known partners and e-commerce.

Shopping will be at byte on, the Primus Online Hardware Shop and www.joysoft.de. Together, they provide a range of over 2,000 new game titles to be selected and ordered online.

Online community www.spieletips.de has 750 tricks and tips and the gaming network. www.uproar.de will provide Channel users with lucrative games of chance. Game Star, IDG’s game magazine, with updated test results and game previews, is also on the site.

Cheats, chat and charts will help Bertelsmann’s Game Channel to consolidate its links with Germany’s gaming community with additional offers. As many as 1,000 international game links lead to tips, test reports, games or shopping special offers.

“It’s growing every day,” said Stephanie Titze, Game Channel’s general manager. “Not only do we provide all our users with international information and help on games, updated regularly, but we also include their favorite links in our database.”

“Thanks to this interactive offer, Game Channel’s database and its userbase are showing ongoing growth.”

Game Channel also releases its most popular game market portal slots to partners who can be thematically integrated with the site, offering such allies a prominent area to display services long-term to a specific target group, explained Stephanie Titze.

In January, the VIAG Intercom telco took a 50 percent stake in the Game Channel. In mid-June the joint venture started the beta test and in August the tested version will be on the market.

The European online game market is projected to be worth US$17.5 billion within the next three years.
