San Francisco-based e-commerce solutions provider INTERSHOP Communications Inc. opened sales
offices in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia.

Driven by growing demand for its e-commerce solutions, the company said it selected Australia as its first subsidiary in the Asia Pacific region.

International Data Corp. projects the number of Australian Internet users to
increase nearly seven-fold, to more than 4.5 million by the year 2001, the
company said.

INTERSHOP’s operations in Sydney will be headed by regional sales manager
Fergus Campbell, an expert in database and programming tools who previously
worked for Oracle, Informix, and Sybase. Campbell will market INTERSHOP
products primarily to the telecommunications industry.
