Seeing opportunities in a fast-growing market, network operator Level 3
announced today that it is now offering Wholesale
Internet services in the Czech Republic.

The Broomfield, Colo., company’s offering will target ISPs, cable providers
and international telecom providers who want to sell communications
services to enterprise customers.

Among Level 3’s first customers is Nextra, a subsidiary of Telenor,
Norway’s largest telecommunications group. Nextra’s goal is to provide IP
services to 10 European countries.

“Eastern Europe is one of the fastest growing regions for IP traffic,
although they do start from a low base,” Nerissa Waring, a Level 3
spokeswoman, told internetnews.com. “The majority of countries in
this region joined the EU this year. That made it far easier to set up and
do business there.”

In addition to demand from potential customers, Level 3 considers several
other factors before expanding its network, Waring said. These include the
cost of acquiring capacity and facilities, as well as the quality and diversity
of the bandwidth.

Over the past three years, Level 3 has expanded its network in Europe to
cover Madrid, Zurich, Geneva, Milan, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Manchester,
Dublin and Vienna.
