LEXIS-NEXIS, a leading provider of
networked information to business and legal professionals, has customized
Universe, its newly launched Web-based product, for Asia.
Universe is the company’s full-on venture into the general and customized
online information business.
The product is a resource environment powered by the LEXIS-NEXIS search
engine and stocked with over 7,000 newspapers, magazines, trade
journals, industry newsletters, and sources of financial data.
“Universe provides us with a browser based platform,” said James King, vice
president, NEXIS strategy & business Development enterprise knowledge
services.
Going beyond providing content solutions for professionals, Universe is
designed to serve as an easy-to-use portal for the typical end user,
according to King.
For the Asian version of the product, LEXIS-NEXIS has indexed a large range
of regional sources including prominent publications like The Straits
Times, The Business Times, Bangkok Post and South
China Morning Post.
“Universe is going to be a family of products,” added King. “The Asia
version is one of them.”
By mid-year, Universe will also include integrated Internet and LEXIS
searching.
Like it’s competitors, LEXIS-NEXIS is also developing business “behind the
firewall” – that is providing similar services for Intranet customers and
managing the private data of corporations.
LEXIS-NEXIS is a member of the Reed
Elsevier Group, a large publishing and information business with annual
sales of $5 billion and 27,000 employees.
