MetaCreations Ships Web Edition Of Painter

As an upgrade to its flagship paint and image-editing software, MetaCreations released Painter 5.5 Web Edition.


As well as catering for
the needs of professional artists who are creating artwork for the print medium,
Painter now offers full facilities for Web designers, including a library of one
thousand Web-ready images, the vendor stated.


“Painter 5.5 Web Edition expands the creative options for Web
designers, giving them a combination of control and creative Natural-Media
tools that they will not find in any other graphics design software available
today,” said John Leddy, VP and general manager of MetaCreations’ Professional Products
Group. “Our goal is to give graphics professionals tools for creating distinctive
Web images that will load quickly even for users with low bandwidth
connections.”


Among the new features in Painter 5.5 Web Edition are: image slicing, dynamic
text, JavaScript rollover support, and easy custom button creation. Image slicing is designed to
let the designer create space-efficient graphics for the Web. The Dynamic
Text tool allows positioning and editing of text directly on an image, with
facilities to rotate, tilt, stretch, and color it. The software automatically generate
JavaScript code for adding interactivity to Web sites. Painter’s Bevel World
feature enables the creation of customized buttons complete with lighting
effects and surface textures, the company said.


Painter 5.5 Web Edition for Windows 95 and NT costs $299. Upgrades for
registered users of Painter 5 cost $79, while upgrades from Painter 4 are $129.
