Oracle Corp. and Telia Friday sealed a joint venture to
co-create and globally market a new line of wireless Net services.

The as-yet-unnamed company will be based in Sweden, and will link the
wireless projects from both companies.
and Telia. Oracle’s (ORCL)Portal-to-Go, a platform-interoperable Net content delivery product which is still in development, will play into the new
assembly line. Wireless application protocol technology will also be
targeted.

The first services are expected to arrive this spring. Financial terms of
the agreement were not disclosed.

“Sweden is a prime example of how a country can take a leading position
within the field of IT by offering cutting-edge mobile Internet solutions to
the international marketplace,” said Pier-Carlo Falotti, Oracle’s European operations chief. He added most people are underestimating the strength of Telia’s research and development program.

“We have already proved that our a global co-operation, which has led to the
launch of the world’s first WAP applications that were unveiled at the
Telecom 99′ exhibition in Geneva last autumn, is sound,” said Kenneth
Karlberg, a vice president at Telia and head of its business area mobile communications.

One successful WAP-based product already released by the two companies is
MyDOF, which Telia and Oracle claim as the first commercial WAP portal.

Karlberg said the new company will serve to consolidate joint
operations.
