Ramp Networks, the US manufacturer of the popular WebRamp family of ISDN and modem connectivity products, is moving into Europe.
It has appointed Logitek as sole UK distribution partner in what is described as “a multi-million pound deal.”
“With the rapid adoption of the Internet in Europe there is an increasing need for connectivity products that are easy to install and use by non-technical users,” said Gary Tauss, VP and general manager at Ramp Networks.
“With increased competition resulting in reductions in the cost of ISDN, and more businesses using the Internet as an aggressive marketing tool we believe the time is right for us to enter the European market.”
A recent report from World Online Markets supports the vendor’s view. It states that total households connected to the Internet will top 66 million by
the year 2000, and much of the growth will be in European markets.
In Europe, the deregulation of telephone companies and the growth of ISDN are
helping to double the number of households with Internet connections from the current 8.7 million to 16.5 in the next two years.
Ramp plans to market its products in Europe to SOHO users via distributors, VARs and ISPs, and is currently appointing other channel partners.
Based in Silicon Valley, Ramp Networks is a privately held company, backed by $36 million in venture capital. It is partially owned by Compaq, with which
it also conducts joint product development.
