RealNetworks, Broadband Networks to Deliver VHS-Quality Video

RealNetworks Inc. announced Wednesday that it is deploying its newest technology, RealSystem 8, with major European media delivery networks to bring VHS-quality video to Internet users across Europe.

In addition, RealNetworks and its streaming media partners have commenced broadband trials in Europe to refine and expand the broadband infrastructure to deliver the best performing and highest quality multimedia experience.

“RealSystem 8 has introduced a new level of Internet video quality to consumers around the world,” said Jeff Pancottine, senior vice president, Media Systems, RealNetworks, Inc. “The distributed delivery system we’re building with leading infrastructure providers opens up entirely new markets for developing, hosting, delivering and viewing video through broadband connections.”

RealNetworks is working with Chello, Deutsche Telekom, Madge and Telia to deploy RealSystem over their broadband networks to deliver quality Internet media available to consumers throughout Europe.

RealNetworks has now begun broadband trials with major broadband service providers, including British Telecommunications, Freeserve, Loral Cyberstar, SES/Astra and SkyStream Networks.
